Defence's reasons

The credibility of RW's charges, against Parlanti, is undermined by the physical and biological impossibility of the events that she described.
But what lasts of that credibility is destined to fall as we get to know that RW herself told on all sides how she felt betrayed, deserted and "angry", how she wanted to reconcile with Carlo and that she reported him only once all of her efforts, to have him back, failed.
Those charges still remain and they're so much serious to need the support of a solid motive to explain such a brutal and violent behaviour in Parlanti.

Motive
In Gilbert Romero's opinion, there's one clear motive (P8L21):
"The defendant, very clear, fancies himself a Romeo. He likes to go out and meet women. He likes to talk to women. He likes the way women make him feel".

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
Even more, Romero, turning himself into a psychologist, states that Carlo is a slave to a set course in the development of his cohabitations.
In fact, talking about the relationship between Parlanti and Ms. De Barra (who describes him as a gentleman, the best guy in the world), the DA said that ( P9L3):
"that relationship only lasted a few weeks, and Mr. Parlanti did not get an opportunity to follow through with his pattern of behavior of first enchanting and entrusting, and then given the opportunity to exert the power and control."
The missed opportunity came from, in Romero's opinion, the fact that a 2 months relationship isn't an amount of time large enough to let Parlanti drink from Mr. Hyde's glass: the relationship should be at least 3 months long, as for Lavagnino, or 7 months long, as for Rebecca White.
At this point there's something clashing: the 2 years long cohabitation with Katia Anedda, but the DA didn't mention this fact.

Why he could
So, in romero's opinion, Parlanti (P25L12) "... beat, bound, and raped Ms. White for the simple reason is that he could. That's what he liked to do to Ms. White on this occasion".
It's useless for you to check the transcription for some psychiatrist' report on the defendant, as it looks like that, for love of efficency, psychiatrist' reports in Ventura County are run by the DA himself.
Finally, Romero said that Parlanti (P25L20) "saw Ms. White not as a person, but as another one of those things he collects. He's a Romeo, who likes to go out and meet women and talk to women and enchant them. That's what he does."
