Before the delivery, all the emails are read by a committee member, in order to check that the messagse don't violate any kind of prison rule. By the way, we suggest you to write directly to him, because even a simple postcard is, to Carlo, a window opened on the external world.

How to phone call Carlo
Global Tel is the society currently running the telephone service for Avenal inmates and it allows also international calls. In order to do that, it's necessary to do a Quick Pay through Western Union.
Remember: not all the Western Union offices are enabled to do international Quick Pay, so check your local office before, and verify that it relies on FININT.

The account number must be composed by 011 + 39 (for Italy) +area code + phone number
The amount of the payment must be 25$ or 50$ or 75$ and so on, but expect to have some troubles when recharging the phone credit!
The objections Western Union can make are:
1. There is no Global Tel in AL (Alberta) and we have a different code from VGTLAL.
2. We've found the company but it doesn't accept the account number; so please give us the company's account number.
SOLUTIONS
1. Call the info number of Western Union and ask for the nearest agency relying on FININT, because you have to do a Quick Pay to a company that isn't registered in the agency's list you've been, and that you're sure that company exists because other people already did what you're still trying to do.
2. you're in the right agency but it doesn't accept you account number. Check the number again. For example: if the number I want to submit is 06-244444, then the account number should be 0113906244444. If it's still not acceptes, remove the 011 and send an email to AdvancePayInternational@gtl.net with the transaction number (written on the receipt) and ask to change the number by adding the 011. Then it should work.
When you receive a call from the prison, you must answer with clear, loud voice; then a recorded message will tell you that's a call from Avenal and that the inmate who wants to talk to you is ...(you hear the inmate's voice saying his name)..and then the recorded voice tells you to press 5 to accept the call. Do it and you'll be able to talk to Carlo.

From within the USA there's no need to use Western Union and you can pay online or you can register your number by calling the 1-800-231-0193; you can also receive the payment receipt directly on your phone bill.
