From  the prison of Avenal ( California ) the MP Zacchera starts up a  parliament petition for our fellow countryman Carlo Parlanti.

On Sunday July 29 at 4:00 pm ( 2:00 am in Italy ) the MP Marco Zacchera has just finished his visit to our fellow countryman Carlo Parlanti ( prisoner since June 2005 in the Avenal prison USA ) convicted with 9 years, for crimes to which he has always plead not guilty to the extreme of refusing a plea bargaining.

It has been a manful and moving meeting, lasted four hours and it has given the opportunity to Carlo Parlanti to describe to MP Zacchera his judicial nightmare ( Zacchera was in the company of the general consul of Italy from San Francisco Roberto Falaschi and of the honorary vice-consul from Fresno )

“ I found Parlanti deeply tired and in pain : it is inconceivable that in 2007 one of our fellow countryman can be closed un in unimaginable conditions for us Italians. “ says MP Zacchera “ Avenal is a state prison isolated from the world, in which are detained about 8000 prisoners that connot receive the much needed medical asisistance because of this overcrowding. I’m worried about his conditions, piorrea and hepatitis C and is obliged to serve his sentence, assigned to him an a trial that left too many question marks, in a common cellwith other 400 inmates without receiving any cure to ease his pain. If until today it has not been enough to question the Italian house of representatives and to appeal to the President of the republic and to the minister of justice and of foreign affairswith also the signatures of 17 MPs from the ueropean parliament from every political group, tomorrow I will start up a parliament petition asking thet while it is shined full light on the entire episode, and expecially on the extradition leaded by Germany in 2005, Carlo Parlanti may be transferred to a prison that could guarantee to him “ humane conditions “.

“ The American prison system “ MP Zacchera proceeds “ gives the possibility to have comfortable cells paid for a price that can also be as high as 100 dollars per day, but it is inconceivable to ask Parlanti’s family, ignored by the media and by the institutions and already drained by the American trial expenses, to bear such a cost.” “ Therefore I hope” MP Zacchera concludes “ that also the friend Franco Frattini, vice-president of the European commission for freedom, security and justice will contribute to shed a light on any violation endured by the fellow countryman Carlo Parlanti inside the European territory”.
