July the 18th 2002. Rebecca White, after having discovered that the man she said she loved (and who used to tell her, lately, to go and find another flat and a job as he wasn't going to keep on maintaining her anymore) was in another State with another woman, went to Ventura police station and made the following statements:

"Carlo Parlanti, the man I've dated for a year and a half and with whom I've been living for 9 months, on the last 29th of June drank two gallons of wine, we got into a fight..."
She said she'd been beaten and the way it did happen: she said Carlo hit her head against a wall 30 times (but then in trial she said he did it 60 times!) and then kicked her so hard that she did faint (and he's 1.84m for 86kg...).

"Then he took me to the bedroom, grabbing my hair, and tied me; he forced me to have sex; I didn't want, but he tied me and used violence on me, from 9 pm to 2:30 am".
At this point, a normal person would be dead. But not Rebecca White. This can't happen in real life. If a man who's 1.84m for 86kg would hit my head against a wall for 30 times, I'd be almost dead. If a man would put his arm into my vagina, I'd need urgent medication. And I'm not talking about an aspirin...

"The following days, until Thursday, he used to go to work during day. He didn't rape me. I was free to go out and report him to the police, but I didn't 'cause I was afraid he could kill me and my daughter. At night, as he needed to sleep, he keeped me tied, so I couldn't escape".
Each time I read her statements, it sounds me even more absurd. At that time, her daughter, who was 24, lived in Virginia and such statements have no grounds. No grounds. Physically, it's impossible for a man, to drink 4 litres of Chardonnay (alcoholic rate: 12%) in about 5/6 hours and still being able to do all this! He should be knocked out, completely! (she made it sound like his being an Italian made him an alcoholic... if this isn't racism, tell me what it should be). And, again, it's impossible for a person to have no bruises or injuries after such a violence. No blood was found, no sperm, no hair. Nothing at all. Nobody noticed any trace of violence on Rebecca White. Can you believe this? Honestly?

Anyway, after those statements an internationa warrant has been issued, even though Carlo ignored what was going on in the US. For two years he didn't knew he'd been charged with such crimes, as he came back to Italy at the end of July 2002, and Italian authorities never told him about this fact.
Carlo discovered it while he was in Dusseldorf, for a meeting. The German police arrested him and then brought him into a high security prison, where he stayed for 11 months, as an innocent (as far as nobody is considered guilty until a final judgement is given). Then he'd been extradated to the US. And we're still asking to ourselves why the Italian Government didn't do anything.
